What’s New in Sage Intacct 2026 R3

Sage Intacct 2026 R3 introduces a range of updates aimed at helping finance teams strengthen controls, reduce manual work, and simplify everyday processes. For nonprofit organizations, some of the most notable changes include new Sage AI capabilities within AP Automation, stronger email security controls, more efficient AP and AR workflows, easier journal entry approval management, and improvements to financial reporting.

The release also offers a preview of capabilities still in Early Adopter stages, including line-level Purchasing approvals and Smart Excel Reporting. Together, the updates reflect continued investment in automation, security, usability, and reporting flexibility across Sage Intacct.

Sage AI Brings Anomaly Detection to AP Automation

One of the most significant additions in 2026 R3 is AI-driven anomaly detection within AP Automation.

For organizations using AP Automation, Sage Intacct can identify transactions that may warrant additional review, including:

  • Unusual transaction amounts
  • Unrecognized vendor email addresses
  • Multiple anomalies associated with the same transaction

For example, a vendor that normally submits invoices around $1,000 but suddenly submits one for $10,000 could be flagged for review.

These anomalies appear on the Automated Transactions screen after the new Anomaly column is added to a custom Enhanced List view. Importantly, an anomaly is informational. It alerts users to something unusual but does not automatically prevent the transaction from being posted.

This gives finance teams another layer of visibility while keeping the final review and decision in their hands.

Sage Intacct Is Tightening Email Security

Several R3 changes focus specifically on email security and verification.

Organizations using AP Automation, Sage Expense Management, or E-Invoicing can now maintain a list of blocked email addresses. Known suspicious or fraudulent addresses can be prevented from submitting documents into automated processing workflows.

Sage Intacct is also beginning to periodically verify the email addresses associated with user accounts. When an email address is changed, the new address must be verified before becoming the primary address associated with the account. Users will also be asked to reverify their addresses periodically.

These changes do not affect sign-in, single sign-on, or multi-factor authentication.

Sage Intacct is also introducing an Allowed Email Address list for customer-facing communications. Sender and reply-to fields are moving from unrestricted text fields toward approved selections managed by administrators. Existing addresses may be populated automatically based on recent usage, giving organizations time to review and maintain their approved sender lists as this functionality continues to develop.

Customer Refunds Get a More Flexible AP Workflow

Sage Intacct has continued expanding its customer refund functionality.

When a customer refund results in an Accounts Payable bill, organizations can now include the related vendor and bill in their standard AP approval workflows. Alternatively, they can configure qualifying refund transactions to skip approvals when additional review is not required.

Finance teams can also filter customer refund bills and payments from the Pay Bills screen, making them easier to identify and process separately when needed.

For organizations that regularly issue direct customer refunds rather than applying credits to future invoices, these changes can help make the process more structured and easier to manage.

Default AP Remittance Email Templates Reduce Setup Work

Another useful Accounts Payable enhancement is the addition of preconfigured AP remittance email templates.

Previously, organizations that wanted customized payment notifications generally had to build their templates from scratch. R3 provides default templates that can be downloaded and then customized.

The templates can incorporate merge fields and organization-specific information, including entity-level details in multi-entity environments. This can help organizations create clearer, more consistent payment communications while reducing the amount of initial setup required.

Templates can also serve as a starting point for more customized vendor communications based on an organization’s needs.

Post Multiple AP Bills and AR Invoices at Once

A relatively simple change could save significant time for organizations that use draft transactions and separate data-entry and review responsibilities.

With Enhanced Lists enabled, Sage Intacct users can now select and post up to 20 AP bills at once rather than opening and posting each bill individually.

Similar functionality is available in Accounts Receivable, where users can post up to 20 invoices or adjustments together.

This can be especially useful for organizations with separation-of-duties processes in which one employee enters transactions in draft status and another reviews and posts them.

Journal Entry Approvals Are Easier to Manage

The underlying journal entry approval process remains familiar, but Sage Intacct has made the administrative setup easier to access.

Journal entry approvals are still initially enabled through General Ledger configuration. Once enabled, however, the approval setup becomes available directly from the General Ledger Setup menu.

That means someone responsible for updating approvers does not necessarily need access to the broader General Ledger configuration screen.

Approvers can include employee managers, individual users, and user groups, giving organizations flexibility in how journal entries are routed for review.

R3 also reorganizes access to recurring journal entries, memorized transactions, and transaction templates under the Journal Entry Templates area. The functionality itself has not fundamentally changed, but users may notice that familiar options have moved.

Bank Reconciliation Statuses Are Clearer

Sage Intacct has also updated some of the terminology used to describe how the most recent bank reconciliation was completed.

Reconciliation information can now distinguish among methods such as Banking Cloud, Classic Import, and Manual reconciliation. Banking Cloud replaces the previous Bank Feed terminology and can represent reconciliations performed using connected banking functionality or bank transaction file imports.

This is primarily a clarity improvement, but it gives users a better indication of how a reconciliation was performed.

Reporting Can Now Exclude Blank Pages

For organizations that regularly generate separate reports by department, location, project, or other dimensions, R3 addresses a familiar reporting inconvenience.

When a report is configured to run as individual reports, users can now select Exclude Blank Pages.

Previously, running individual reports could create pages for dimension values that had no activity during the selected period. The new option suppresses those unnecessary pages.

The capability applies to financial reports and several standard reports, including the General Ledger, Trial Balance, Department Activity, Dimension Balances, Account Balances, Journals, and Comparative Trial Balance.

What’s Coming: More Granular Purchasing Approvals

Sage also highlighted an Early Adopter capability for custom Purchasing approvals.

The functionality is designed to support approval routing using both header-level and line-level Purchasing data. That could allow individual transaction lines to route to different approvers based on criteria such as department, project, vendor, or location.

For organizations with complex purchasing structures, line-level routing could address an important limitation in current approval workflows.

This functionality remains in Early Adopter status and is not yet generally available.

What’s Coming: Smart Excel Reporting

Another Early Adopter feature worth watching is Smart Excel Reporting.

The planned capability would allow users to build reports directly in Microsoft Excel using financial data linked to Sage Intacct and then refresh those reports with updated Intacct data.

For finance teams that rely heavily on Excel for analysis, presentation, or customized reporting, this could eventually provide a more direct connection between Sage Intacct data and existing spreadsheet workflows.

Because the functionality is still in Early Adopter status, details such as general availability and whether it will require an additional subscription were not yet confirmed during the webinar.

Yes. Organizations using AP Automation can use Sage AI-powered anomaly detection to flag unusual transaction amounts, unrecognized vendor email addresses, and transactions containing multiple anomalies.

Will an AP anomaly stop a transaction from posting?

No. The anomaly indicators are informational. They draw attention to transactions that may deserve additional review but do not automatically prevent posting.

Can Sage Intacct now post multiple bills at once?

Yes. With Enhanced Lists enabled, users with the appropriate permissions can select and post up to 20 AP bills simultaneously. Similar functionality is available for AR invoices and adjustments.

What changed with journal entry approvals?

Initial approval functionality is still enabled through General Ledger configuration, but ongoing approval setup and approver management are now more accessible from the General Ledger Setup menu.

Is Smart Excel Reporting available now?

Smart Excel Reporting was presented as an Early Adopter capability. It is not yet a generally available R3 feature, and additional details about availability and licensing were not confirmed during the webinar.

What is the biggest reporting improvement available now?

One particularly practical R3 improvement is the ability to exclude blank pages when reports are generated separately by dimensions such as department, location, or project.
